Little Feat's guitarist talks about touring and friends

Submitted photo - The eclectic band Little Feat will perform Saturday at 9 p.m. It's hard defining an unconventional band such as Little Feat. Founded in 1969, the band blends first-rate musicianship with eclectic tastes. As American as apple pie, Feat's music transcends boundaries - a freewheeling fusion of California rock and Dixie-inflected funk-boogie. In the mix as well are strains of folk, blues, rockabilly, country and jazz, inventing a hybrid sound that is truly Little Feat's own.The band is one of the headlining performers at the Mid-America Ribfest, playing a concert Saturday at 9 p.m. on the Bud Light Sound Stage. Guitarist Fred Tackett co-produced the band's most recent studio album, "Kickin' It At The Barn," with fellow Feat-ers Paul Barrere and Bill Payne. However, it's the soon-to-be-released "Join The Band" that had Tackett talking in a recent phone interview. Ohio groups fighting foreclosure get $1M

The Olympics: It's International! Outside Quote of the Day... The heat stayed relatively tame (oh, 98 or so) but the crowd kept growing, swelling to an estimated 50,000 for bands ranging from breathy Colbie Caillat to the mesmerizing flamenco duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. Schedules overlapped between bands and the line-up was so good, it was hard to decide which tent to hit next. The Bullsnake stage? The Bison tent? People pushed and shoved to get inside The Roots' show while The Black Crowes drew a much more free and tie-dyed crowd, playing into the sunset. John Mayer, who almost pulled in the same sized crowd as Tom Petty, made more than one subtle suggestion that girls should take their tops off. He was unsuccessful. Eindhoven - NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, recently announced it has developed the first multi-standard radio integrated circuit (IC) dedicated to digital in car-reception together with iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of digital HD Radio technology. As multiple digital radio formats continue to emerge, such as HD Radio technology and DAB/DRM/T-DMB in Europe and Asia, auto makers are challenged with examining all the major digital radio protocols and determining which ones to support. U.S. BEIJING -- China didn’t appear as if it were capable of beating anyone in men’s basketball, except perhaps for Angola, after the United States blew out the home team in the opener. Then the Lakers’ Pau Gasol took over, scoring nine of Spain’s 13 points in the overtime. Spain, one of the few teams considered capable of hanging with the United States, won, 85-75. Gasol finished with 29 points and eight rebounds. The United States, playing in the next game, beat Angola, 97-76. Dwyane Wade had 19 points and five rebounds. 11:31 p.m. (Monday) Softball fans in the United States wonder why their sport has been booted from the Olympics after this year.
