Nov. 15, 2005 - FLOOD MAPS

More than 20,000 communities throughout the U.S. will have out-of-date flood maps upgraded over the next four years to a digital format as part of a $1.6 billion federal mapping project. These maps are used to identify flood-prone areas. But unpredictable floodwaters, especially in rapidly growing urban areas, can sometimes thwart mapmakers' best efforts.
