Florida Real Estate

Oct. 27, 2005 - Issues Watch: Impact Fees

Seminole County now has the lowest school impact fee in Central Florida,
but the school district is considering raising the amount to $5,536 per
single-family home from the current $1,384. However, the school board
has hired a consultant to review its impact fees and help calculate the exact
amount. A higher school impact fee of $5,536 would allow the Seminole
school district to take in an additional $14 million in annual revenue --
enough for construction of an elementary school. According to Seminole
County school officials, the county welcomes an estimated 1,400 new
students per year -- equal to the enrollment capacity of two elementary
schools.
