Jan. 10, 2006 - HOME SCHOOLING

To combat an apparent lack of workforce housing in an area
with high median home prices, the Palm Beach County
school district is bringing together Realtors, credit counselors,
home inspectors, bankers and other housing professionals
to show teachers and teacher recruits that homeownership
in the county can be affordable. School board members
say many teachers avoid Palm Beach County, where the
median home price reached $400,000 in 2005. The seminars
will let teachers know that they have access to upwards of
$20,000 in downpayment assistance from local agencies,
and also help those who need to rebuild their credit prepare
for buying a home over the next five to 10 years.
