Phillies dump Dodgers to reach baseball World Series

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Jimmy Rollins smacked a game-opening home run and the Philadelphia Phillies advanced to their first World Series since 1993 by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in a playoff game here Wednesday.The Phillies won the best-of-seven National League Championship Series four games to one and will open the World Series next Wednesday at either Tampa Bay or defending champion Boston.The Tampa Bay Rays, seeking their first World Series bid, carry a 3-1 lead into Thursday's game five of the American League finals against the Boston Red Sox.The Phillies, founded in 1883, won their only World Series title in 1980.
