I Have a Tendency to Make Myself Laugh

Just A Q 4 U

Okay so I wasn’t going to write a blog today. Yet, I am always convicted because I know that I have some faithful readers… so here goes nothing.

There are a lot of things going on in my life right now. Some of these things are good things… really good things… and others are simply distracting. That always tends to happen in life though. You’ll be going on your merry way until something is brought to your attention that so strongly demands your concentration that you cant do anything but focus on it until your mind is satisfied.

I guess that’s where I’m at right now. I can’t focus on much because I’m trying to wrap my head around a situation that has been bothering me for a while. Sometimes I don’t write everything that goes on in my life on this blog because I want to be sure that I have some sort of personal life; and while this issue doesn’t really involve me personally I would like your opinion on it.

The pressing issue that has been monopolizing my personal time for the past few days is this: text ebonics. Yes you read it right text ebonics. Like: how r u? Or c u la8er… these things I just don’t understand. Now I’ve been guilty of throwing in the occasional “k” instead of actually texting out okay; but that’s about as far as I take it. I recently got a text message from a friend that perplexed me to the point that I had to address it… lets see if you can decode this mysterious new script, “N whatever alre you tink is coo”… no joke… you know what this person meant to say? “Whatever you think is appropriate.”

my dear friend you raise a perplexing problem. Yes that is my text that you are mocking. Do you realize that not everyone has the ability to sit down and text. some of us are driving or trying to walk thru the grocery store or even in class or at work and are working to keep their cellular phones from being confiscated. so please be patient with those of us who practice text ebonics. c u laters

okay.. I text a lot... and it makes sense to me why anyone would use ebonics -- it is a LOT faster. for instance instead of writing 'i dont know' you can write 'idk' and you've saved yourself a couple of minutes of frustrating finger work on your phone. Plus if it a long message, you can cut down how long it takes to read for the reader-- it s good for both parties.

n 4 ur enjoyment ill display sum gr8 txt skilz so u can c jus how much shortr u can make it. If i txt u this, im pretty sure ud b able 2 read what im saying, even if it isnt prop. eng. its all abt time, n time is important 2 every1. This msg was sent 2 u frm ur cali friend KT

I think it goes both ways. If you send me text ebonics please make sure that I can read it cuz when I do it I make sure that person can read it. It's not as bad when u understand it, right linz?
