I’m Not Drunk… Just ForgetfulAnother weekend come and gone, and what do I have to show for it? Nothing but a bag of goldfish and sore knees.
Friday: Friday was busier than usual. Not only did I have Caleb all day but I also had his sister Jessica (who didn’t have school) and both Dartavious and Aysia. It was so much fun. It was nice to have so many kids; really all that means is that the pressure for me to be entertaining was gone. Kids are so good at keeping each other occupied. We played games, watched movies and had a little bible story time. The one thing I did learn though about having lost of kids all at once was that they were a lot grouchier. I think that it’s because they have fun together but when they want attention from adults they have to compete hard core, but for the most part they were good. Before Vincent and I went out on our date I took some painkillers cuz… well I was in pain. I rarely take painkillers so I don’t always know what the side effects are going to be. Needless to say I was officially one of the worst (and by worst I mean selfish/boring) dates of all time. This medication I took made me so drowsy that I slept for four hours. Vincent had tons of RA event things to go to and I was going to go with him… yeah I made it out to one… cuz the rest of the time I was asleep on his floor. Sorry man… no more painkillers for me… I felt so bad… still do… but I’ll get over it!
Saturday: Saturday was a great day! I got up semi early and went out to adopt-a-block… where I met up with… no one! Yup I was the only person who showed up! I guess Shooter was at the church waiting but I didn’t see her… I think we really just missed each other. So instead of knocking on doors and picking up garbage I watched one of my Metro Kidz basketball games. It was a good game they lost it by 1 or 2 points and they fought hard. After the game I went to the mall… Side Note: I don’t know if anyone else does this but when I’m feeling just a little out of it I like to go to the mall and try on expensive clothes. Yup it just makes me feel all crisp and clean. It also gives me something to look forward to. Because someday those clothes wont seem so expensive! Back to Saturday: So I tried on clothes and passed by this fun store I love call Gadzooks. There were signs everywhere that they were going out of business and that everything was 50% off. So I went in and looked at some stuff. Naturally most of the good stuff was gone; but I found this beautiful skirt that I’ve been eyeing since June (Annetta: it’s the black and white one you have that I gush over every time I see it). So I try it on and it fit perfectly! I go to the register, they ring it up, and the price was a whopping $7.00! Oh yeah! Go Valentines Day! After my “shopping spree” I went home and relaxed… for a long time; but let me tell you, it was well worth it.
Sunday: Super Sunday! You gotta love it… and if you don’t then you’re in the wrong business! You know my Sundays are always filled with great adventure! I woke up (not as early as I would have liked) and got ready for church. I drove in and got straight to business… well Pastor Julia got us straight to business. Since she is showing us how to run things she took over our mic check. It was great because everything got done so much faster. After mic check was prayer… and prayer was just powerful. Everyone just immediately entered in; it really makes the prayer leaders (or I guess Ramon’s) job so much easier if people just go for it! After prayer was Christian education. The video was good and I learned… well not much but it reaffirmed things that I already believed! Then it was off to service. Praise and worship was anointed. Again those who really wanted something from God got it. The worship, however, wasn’t the only thing people got blessed during; the word was powerful! Bishop preached on love and it was almost more of a stand up comedy act then a sermon. He had people crying, falling out of their seats… it was truly as sight to see. Really though the word was so good. Bishop is really good about giving advice that doesn’t sound like he’s lecturing. Bottom line the word was so great that I bought the CD. I think I’m going to give it to one of my married friends who I think will benefit from it greatly! Side Note: The UPS man just asked me if I had a good weekend. I said yes and then he asked what I did. I answered with an honest, “I can’t really remember right now”. I think he thought I was drunk all weekend… oops… I’m not drunk… just forgetful. After service my daughter Shash and I went out and had a girl’s afternoon… really we just ate chips, watched Look Who’s Talking and napped… go girl time! After our little nappy we got all beautiful and went out to leading ladies! Pastor Julia threw us all a Valentine’s Day dinner party and it was beautiful. We all got cooked for and waited on by the men of the church (Vincent was all the way across the room so he didn’t get my table). I sat with Shooter and some other lovely ladies and we just hang out and had a blast! We played a “name that tune” game… well I, along with Trenecsia and Pastor Julia orchestrated the whole thing. We had to think on our toes so we had a lot of Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross tunes coming out of our mouths… but the game was fun. Mrs. Rillo, Mrs. Woodard and Annetta all won pretty, silky, lacy things. Annetta, the only non-married one of the group of women playing was a bit embarrassed… but she’ll get over it! Then it was out to service. Pastor Lynn-Felice delivered a powerful word about… well Verbs. She talked about when God calls you to the next level you actually have to do something to get there. She also said that your victory is in your mind. She talked about this book called 1-minute millionaire. The book said that when you finally make up in your mind that you are going to be a millionaire that’s when you become one. Just that quick! Because once your mind is set and made up all you have left is the execution. It was a good word that really you can apply to all areas of your life. You want your marriage to work? Make up in your mind that your marriage is whole and then actively do something to reach that goal. You want a new job? Decided that you already have it and then actively go and get it. It sounds too easy to be true, but I think sometimes we underestimate the power of the mind. After service I hung out for a bit and then Vincent and I drove Wiley to his car (in Mtlk Terrace). Then we hung out and talked instead of our nightly phone conversation.
